Marc Jacobs embraces the era of excess at Louis Vuitton

For women who came of age in the late ’80s, Marc Jacobs’ fall collection for Louis Vuitton pulled a little at their heartstrings. There were the puffed-out skirts, the ruffles, the pops of pink, and the bold shoulders—all reminiscent of some over-the-top fashion spread we all had pasted to our third-grade-bedroom walls. Unexpected flourishes came in the form of the accessories. The Baroque-style heels looked more Marie Antoinette than Madonna, and the hip-high boots, with velvet ribbon lacing all the way up, felt utterly of-the-moment. Eighties excess—in all its lacy, flouncy, poufy glory—never looked so chic.
